18、威胁 Pukia

　　Pukia: “I'm sorry we sorta ended on a bad note last time.（对不起，我们上次算是不太愉快地结束了谈话。）”

　　这是 Pukia 见到 Vivian 说的第一句话。

　　Vivian: “Oh, it's OK. That's fine.（哦，没关系的，这没什么。）”

　　Pukia: “You worked here for a fair amount of time-（你在这里工作过一段时间 -）”

　　Vivian: “Yeah, that's what I've been thinking. Is that allowed?（对，我也在想，这是被允许的吗？）”

　　Pukia: “Well,（嗯 -）” 她耸了耸肩，“I just think it's definitely something we can use to our advantage.（我只是觉得这完全可以是我们的优势。）”

　　Vivian: “Well, It's your research.（反正是你们的实验。）”

　　Vivian 效仿着她的语气和动作也耸了耸肩。她不在乎。

　　Pukia: “Exactly, so you don't need to worry about it for a bit. As you know, one of our subjects withdrew from the research. I think you still remember that exchange— the one where your name was mentioned.（没错，所以你完全不用担心。如你所知，我们的一个参与者退出了这项研究。我想你还记得那一个对话，你的名字出现的那个谈话。）”

　　Vivian: “The one that got me fired. Of course.（害我被开的那个。当然。）”

　　Pukia: “Oh, come on. Haven't you realized yet? You were never fired. It's just a change of roles. You are cooperative, you have a good story, you are a psychology student, you know what the research is about. You are the perfect candidate.（哦，别这样。你还没意识到吗？你从来就没有被真正解雇过。这只是一个角色的转变。你很配合，你有一个精彩的人生故事，你是心理学的学生，你也知道这项研究是关于什么的。你是最合适的人选。）”

　　Vivian: “Cooperative?（配合的？）”从哪看出来的？Vivian 心想。

　　Vivian: “And what do you mean that ‘I have a good story?’（还有，‘我有一个好故事’是什么意思？）”

　　Pukia 笑了一下，凑近 Vivian 耳朵轻声说: “We know about your past.（我们知道你的过去。）”

　　Vivian: “Is that a threat?（这是威胁吗？）”

　　Pukia: “Nope, I just think it's definitely something we can use to our advantage.（不呀，我只是觉得这完全可以是我们的优势。）”

　　Pukia 露出天真的神情，冲 Vivian 友好地笑了笑。

　　原来这就是 Pukia 威胁人的样子，或者，应该说这就是上位者的姿态。
