3、Chapter 3. France X Austria 貌合神离 ...

  • Francis Bonnefeuille had always dreamed of having Roderich on his bed. The fire of envy burned him almost to death when his friend Antonio got married to Roderich. But now the fire of excitement burned him as well when he heard of their divorce. For God’s sake, all his flirtation with Roderich (only from his point of view) finally paid back.
However unwilling Roderich was, he was forced to marry Francis. Francis was very aware of the relationship between Roderich and Gilbert, but he was confident to himself that he could make Roderich forget his former lover and current enemy. Unfortunately, all his complaisance harvest only cold words like stone.
Gilbert was upset when he became Roderich’s enemy, but he was much more upset when he heard of the news of wedding. He didn’t receive any invitation to the ceremony, yet he would not have attended even if he had got one.
He knew Roderich was not happy. Francis loved collecting beauty, no matter people or things. Roderich now became one of his collections. When Gilbert heard that Francis went out for hunting one day, he came for Roderich. Enemies as they were, they made love desperately, as if that was their last time together.
‘We can’t do this any more,’ said Roderich sadly, ‘you are the third party who broke people’s marriage.’
‘If the marriage is unhappy, I’m doing the right thing.’

The unhappy marriage finally came to the end. Gilbert immediately stood by Roderich’s side, arranging lawyers and attesters for the divorce case.
‘There is only one disadvantage to you, Roderich,’ one of the lawyers, Arthur Kirkland suggested, ‘you claimed that Francis’s cheating made you disappointed at the marriage. However, you cheated him as well. That’s not a good reason.’
Everyone around them was involved in the divorce case. However, Francis was way too powerful and they failed again and again. One day in the morning, when Gilbert woke up on Roderich’s bed, dreaming to marry him afterwards, he couldn’t find Roderich anywhere. There was only a letter for him informing that Roderich went back to Francis.
Heartbroken Gilbert rushed to Francis’s home, but was seriously hurt. In his unconsciousness, he felt some one mopping the blood from his wounds, binding them up, kissing his forehead and whispering to his ears,
‘None of us can be Francis’s enemy, so let me go to him. At least we may have chance to beat him from inside.’
The final cruel war almost destroyed all of them. After the war, Gilbert and Roderich stood as enemies again, under others’ will.
‘Unfortunate destiny, torturing us all,’ said Roderich, lying on the ground, hurt and dying.
‘Be alive. I shall come to you one day.’
